THE PROJECT.

Happy Mind is a concept for a mobile app that delivers accessible and easy-to-use services to older generations seeking mental health care. This was created as a final project in my DES 112 UI/UX class. This app aims to solve two issues: mental health is still stigmatized in today’s society, and mental health care for the elderly is often overlooked. This app implements features such as a scheduling service to easily book appointments, guided meditations and breathing exercises to promote mindfulness, a journal for the user to jot down notes and reminders, and a community space for people to connect with other users. The design decisions in the development of the UI/UX for this app directly correlate to the user research that inspired it. For example, the cool color palette provides a calming effect, the large icons make the app visually accessible, and the simplicity of the interface makes the app intuitive and easy to navigate. The development of the app’s interface on Figma allowed me to test it out in real time and note what areas could be streamlined. This project highlighted the value of designing for specific groups of people and their very real needs.
